Paint and Process with artist Steve Rose

Please join artist/instructor Steve Rose for this unique series of classes.  This exciting opportunity offers artists quality studio time to indulge and
immerse themselves in their art practice.
Each class will begin with a brief informal lecture on a particular artist or movement and progress through exercises and projects. By creative process of vision to execution emphasis will be placed on individual attention in regard to medium, concepts, content and technical mastery. 


New Directions in Art with Steve Rose

Artists of all levels, working in a variety of mediums and styles, are invited to bring in their art works, finished or in progress, to participate in engaging discussions moderated by artist Steve Rose. Join us for a few laughs as we navigate our way through the artistic process and help each other develop in New Directions as artists.


Abstract, Collage and Mixed Media with Suzanne Metz

This class is perfect for those who want a taste of all types of artistic experience, techniques and modes of self-expression in a nurturing, inspiring studio! Receive one-on-one attention that is tailor-made to your needs and interests with artist and instructor Suzanne Metz. Learn new artistic techniques such as color use, paint application, abstraction, composition, depth, symbolism, textured acrylic painting mediums, printmaking tips to enhance your artwork, and multi-media secrets. Work from a variety of subject matter including realism, abstraction, imagination, and personally inspired subject matter. During the fall term, Suzanne will be introducing a variety of different supports – raw canvas, wood, mylar, unstretched canvas and different types of paper. All levels are welcome including complete beginners.

Search For The Abstract with artist John Lennard

Wednesday, January 31 to Wednesday, February 28th ( 5 weeks)

The class will be looking for ways to find the abstraction of art by incorporating the classic language of painting. Focus will be on finding and developing a sense of space, rhythm, tension and observing the classic compositions and ideas around art.
In this class I will not be using photographs but will look at drawings, still life and the urban landscape to develop ideas and inspiration for painting. Oil or acrylic paint.


Mastering Acrylic Techniques with Martha Johnson

Thursday, January 11th – March 1st ( 8 weeks)

Intermediate to Advanced
Cost $340 + HST – Registration

Building your skill with acrylic paint has many advantages. As with all visual art, there are particular properties to be understood in order to get the full benefit of working in acrylic. Currently acrylic mediums have been designed to mimic encaustic and oil effects.
Beyond learning how to create the types of strokes and impasto of historic artists,
students will learn colour and layering methods of contemporary painters. This class will allow participants to work with new tools such as markers, incorporate fluorescent pigments as well as embrace mixed media and illustration into their work enhancing the finish to the next level. There will be opportunity for critique at planned times during the course. Materials list provided.
